Closed for Christmas? Here's What Your Customers Will Actually See
You've decided your dates. Last day of work, first day back. Great.
The trouble is that your business doesn't know yet. Your website still says you're open. Your booking calendar is happily taking appointments for the 27th. Google is telling someone three towns over to drive out to a locked gate.
So before you switch off, walk through your business the way a customer would. Here's where to look.
Your homepage
Put one short line at the top of your site with your closing and reopening dates. A banner or announcement bar works well because people see it straight away, on every page. Keep it simple: “We're closed from [date] and back on [date]. Orders and enquiries will be answered when we return.”
Your inbox and contact form
An auto-reply is the difference between “they've gone quiet” and “they've told me exactly when they'll be back.” Set one on your email, and check whether your contact form sends its own confirmation. Include your return date and where to go if something is urgent, even if the answer is “it can wait until January.”
Your bookings
Block out your closed dates in whatever booking system you use. Do it now, while you remember, not on Christmas Eve when someone has already booked a slot you'll never see.
Your online store
If you sell products, tell people your last order date for Christmas delivery. Check your courier's published cut-off dates rather than guessing, and add a line about when shipping starts again.
Your Google Business Profile
This one gets missed the most. Set your holiday hours so Google Maps and search show you as closed. It takes two minutes and saves someone a wasted trip.
Your socials
Schedule a handful of posts to cover the quiet weeks. Include one that clearly says you're closed and when you'll be back. Your brand keeps showing up while you're having a well-earned break.
The goal
Every place a customer might find you should tell the same story. Same dates, same message, no surprises.
Planning the conditions you'll actually face matters more than planning for the perfect ones. December is one of those conditions.
If you work through this list and realise your website needs more than a holiday note, that's worth a chat before the new year. Book a discovery call and we'll work out what you actually need.
